Movie Inspiration|

The other day, I was watching the movie 500 Days of Summer. If you have not seen it, you must and if you have, then bare with me.

There are a variety of reasons why I love the movie, but mostly because it's refreshingly realistic. It follows the climb and fall of a relationship between two individuals-Tom and Summer. It's a quirky style of film and shys away from the usual boy meets girl and they live happily ever after type.

There is a specific scene where Tom is going to a party at Summer's house and there is a split screen. His expectations vs. reality. His expectations are unrealistic and amusing. His reality is raw and refreshing. As I watched the split screen and story unfold, I found myself smiling to myself.

I live with high expectations in life. And I'm not even talking about relationally. So often the stories that unfold in my head(and heart) are full of adventure, passion, compassion and untainted love. People fight for what they want, they speak their mind and reach outside of their selfishness. And in my mind, I am the person who forgives before I react, and loves before I resent and has the courage to speak with honesty and candor.

But let's be realistic. We can't live our lives out of our interpretations, our perceptions and our views. The world is tainted, and sometimes incredibly selfish and crippled by fear. We would rather be comfortable then brave. We would rather play it safe then speak the truth in love.

The challenge that I have to send out to the world, and most importantly myself, is this:

Be realistic, open to the reality of life.

But also be brave, kind and forgiving. Be the expectation you put on others.
