Not often do you hear the phrase, "Choose the wrong path...it will take you to the right place."

We have been told within our society, to make "safe and healthy" decisions. It has carved us into a dependant society, leaving little room for failure or even mistakes. We all make subconscious choices every day. Toast or cereal? Sandals or shoes? Hat or no hat? We hope that by making the "good" choice, we may possibly avoid discomfort and disappointment. I am not encouraging you to go out and make reckless decisions. But what I am trying to communicate is that we must leave room for detours.

What if we allowed space in our lives for detours, multiple paths and significant, maybe uncomfortable, changes? Sometimes we must take "the other road" in order to be re-routed to the path we are supposed to be traveling on. When faced with a "fork in the road" scenarios in our life, detours are a part of that. They bring new life, fresh perspective, new scenery, challenges and growth within us as a person.

"Nothing in your life is ever a waste", someone wise once told me. "Every decision you have made in your life has lead you up to this point."

My challenge to you is this: Allow detours in your life and be open to welcoming rough patches, uncomfortable conversations, and heartbreak in your life. You may become more understanding, gentle and kind as a result of it. And you may learn a thing or two about life.

  1. Great message, really enjoyed reading this, I agree, it isn't always easy to choose the longest/hardest way to get somewhere, but it always turns out to be the best lessons yoy learn in life
